Beginners guide

What do I need to start splitboarding?

1. splitboard with splitboard bindings
2. snowboard/splitboard boots
3. teleskoping/foldable poles
4. splitboard skins
5. crampons
6. backpack that is comfortable and reliable/avalanche backpack
7. extra base layers
8. avalanche trio if you are going to a risky terrain(beacon, probe, showel)
9. head torch for night splitboarding
10. enough H₂O and food
11. helmet
12. googles
13. sunglasses
14. hat/cap
15. tools and gear repair kit
16. extra gloves
17. first aid
18. sunscreen
19. phone + powerbank
20. emergency bivy sack
21. pocket knife

For more challenging tours, add a map, boot crampons and an ice axe(Cepin), as well as a harness, rope, ice screws and any other necessary alpine gear.

Attend The avalanche safety workshop presented by a touring guide before hitting the mountains. Ideally before season starts. Perfect for total beginners and also experienced ones to renew their knowledge.
Know how to handle your gear.

Remember to have a freshly waxed splitboard:) A mistake I did once and never again:) (don’t be lazy) The difference can make smooth sailing or drag you in a dangerous situation.
